Measuring up for interior fretwork is very easy. You may take the measurements yourself or if preferred have your builder, carpenter or handyman measure up.

1. Begin at the highest point and measure the distance from wall to wall. If working at a height please ensure it is safe to do so.

2. Come down by approx 600mm and measure again from wall to wall

The walls of older homes may not be square so the fretwork will be made to the widest measurement. The sides of the fretwork can be shaved a little on site at the time of installation.

Measurements do need to be accurate as the piece will be made to these dimensions.

When deciding on the length of the drop there are a few things to consider.

1. Physical limitations such as picture rails, door frames or other structural feature.

2. Maintaining the proportion of the fretwork. General rule of thumb is that the drop is approximately half the width. However this does not apply to all and longer drops are possible.
